How to Use This in ClickUp

1

Click Use Template and add it to your Space

Open the template and select Use Template, then choose the Space where your goals should live. ClickUp copies the goal folder and structure into your workspace instantly.

2

Set a measurable target on each goal

Open a goal and pick a target type. Use currency for revenue, number for counts, task completion for projects, and true/false for milestone style goals. Enter the start and target values.

3

Link the work that moves the goal

Connect tasks or Lists to the goal so completing them advances progress automatically. For numeric goals, update the current value and the percentage recalculates on its own.

4

Add the folder to a dashboard

Drop the goal folder onto a dashboard so the roll up percentage is always visible. This becomes the single number your team checks instead of asking for status updates.

Watch Out For

  • Task completion targets only move when linked tasks are actually marked complete, so keep the task statuses current.
  • Numeric and currency targets still need the current value updated by hand or via Automation; the roll up math is automatic but the input is not.
  • Goals live in ClickUp Goals, not as regular tasks, so look under the Goals section rather than your task lists.

Who This Is For

Teams that already work in ClickUp

Goals connect directly to the tasks and projects you are already running, so tracking is a byproduct of normal work.

Managers tracking quarterly targets

Folder level roll up answers the on track question without chasing anyone for an update.

Anyone tired of manual status columns

Progress updates itself, so the goal list reflects reality instead of the last time someone remembered to edit it.

Need dependencies and auto-scheduling?

The ClickUp version adds drag-to-reschedule, dependency lines, and critical path on top of this same structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Progress roll up is automatic once you connect targets. Task completion goals advance as linked tasks are marked done. Numeric and currency goals recalculate the percentage automatically, but you enter the current number yourself or set up an Automation to do it.

Yes. ClickUp Goals is available on the Free Forever plan with limits on the number of active goals. Higher tiers remove those limits and add features like goal folders at larger scale, so heavy users may want a paid plan.
