Do volunteer projects count toward PMP experience requirements?
Yes. PMI accepts project management experience from volunteer work, provided it involves genuine project leadership activities: defining scope, managing a schedule, coordinating people, and delivering an outcome. The experience does not need to be paid employment. Document it the same way you would professional experience.
Can I count the same project for multiple months of experience?
Yes. Each month you were actively leading a project counts toward your total. A 12-month project counts as 12 months of experience. However, months where you were simultaneously leading two projects count only once, not twice. PMI counts calendar months of PM experience, not hours per project.
What happens if PMI audits my application?
You have 90 days to submit the required documentation: signed verification letters from managers or supervisors for each project, and your education certificate for the 35-hour requirement.
