Why Kanban Depth Varies
Every PM tool has a board view, but kanban depth ranges from basic column layouts to full workflow management with WIP limits, swimlanes, card aging, cumulative flow diagrams, and custom card fields. The gap matters most for teams that use kanban as their primary work management method rather than a secondary view.
What to Test
Create a board with 5 columns, set WIP limits on the middle 3 columns, and add swimlanes by team member or priority. Then try to exceed a WIP limit and see if the tool warns or blocks you. If the tool does not support WIP limits at all, it is a board view, not a kanban implementation.
