Don\u2019t repeat yourself. <\/strong><\/p>\n

It sounds like such an easy principle to abide by but the reality is we all do this, even with ourselves. <\/span><\/p>\n

I absolutely hate repeating myself, I don\u2019t know exactly what it is that bothers me. To me, repeating myself is like going nuts. <\/span><\/p>\n

It comes in many forms, but the most annoying is discussing with someone something that needs to be done, then two days later, discussing the exact same thing again. And of course it hasn\u2019t been done. <\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s always the ever popular \u201cI forgot\u201d excuse. And of course the \u201cI thought John was going to do that\u201d. And the most frustrating, \u201cYou didn\u2019t say that\u201d explanation. <\/span><\/p>\n

So, the question is can we solve this? How can we prevent ourselves from repeating things? <\/span><\/p>\n

The answer is simple and obvious, <\/span>create a system<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Create a system and use that system religiously. Not just you, but all the people around you need to use the system.<\/span><\/p>\n

My favorite systems (I use both as if my life depends on it):<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Google Inbox<\/span><\/a>: This has been a life changer for me. It literally changes the way email works. Emails are now tasks (as they should be). But they don\u2019t feel like tasks – in fact you feel like email is much less work than it used to be. It\u2019s no longer cluttered. The best thing about Inbox – is the <\/span>reminders<\/b> feature. Set yourself reminders quickly and easily – and snooze (schedule) them for when they need to be done.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. ClickUp<\/span><\/a>: I can read your mind, I know you\u2019re thinking \u201cWell of course he would say that, he created the damn product\u201d. Well, this is just more the reason to trust me on this. I created ClickUp because I HATED all of the other options out there. I tried them ALL. There was nothing that was simple, beautiful, and feature rich<\/a>. Plus, I thought of some really cool things that no one else had and I wanted to create them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In any project management software, comments get lost. This was one black hole where I was REPEATING myself – over and over again. I commented very clearly but somehow, the comment wasn\u2019t acted upon. <\/span><\/p>\n

    To fix this, we created Assignable Comments<\/a> in ClickUp. If your comment requires any action, simply assign it to the person that should perform the action! <\/span><\/p>\n

    It\u2019s not practical to create full-blown tasks for such minor things in comments, so I figured why not allow the comments themselves to act like a task? <\/span><\/p>\n

    After you\u2019ve created the system, use the shit out of it. Train your brain to trigger using your system the second you finish thinking or explaining a task. <\/span><\/p>\n

    It may take a couple of weeks but when you get in the habit of doing this, your overall productivity and happiness will increase significantly. <\/span><\/p>\n

    Once you jump the hurdle, you\u2019ll never go back. Just make sure anyone you rely on takes the leap with you and watch the threads in your brain magically start untangling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
