No company has infinite resources, so it\u2019s important to <a href=\"https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/prioritization-tools\/\">prioritize time and resources<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even the best <a href=\"https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/free-project-management-software\/\">project management software<\/a> can\u2019t determine your priorities for you. You need to plan out which projects you\u2019re going to work on and prioritize the order you\u2019re going to accomplish them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usually, finding the answer involves hearing from your team. Marketing, support, engineering \u2014 everyone should be invested in the result. But many teams ignore perhaps the most important voice: your users!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can\u2019t build a user-centric product if you don\u2019t listen to the user<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imagine logging into ClickUp to see a perfectly-sequenced board with a clear scope on every task. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/blog\/the-best-way-to-collect-user-feedback\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harnessing user feedback<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will give you the confidence to rank your task lists by business impact. From there, it\u2019s much easier to plan and prioritize based on effort and business goals. That\u2019s the power of user feedback.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/blog\/say-no-feature-requests\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doesn\u2019t mean you treat every piece of user feedback as a direct order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of course. But it does mean you value their input (and show it), as they\u2019re the ones <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">using<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your product. You ask for their opinions and keep them updated on the things that matter to them. It\u2019s a collaborative effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The issue is that, when left untracked, user feedback can be hard to quantify. Many companies mistake providing customer support for soliciting feedback. Obviously, you will get feedback when you hear from users, but offering excellent support is not the same as soliciting user feedback with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/features\/collect-feedback\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dedicated feedback tool like Canny<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s crucial to have tools to separate signals from the noise. Otherwise, it\u2019s hard to turn user comments into actionable tasks with any confidence. The goal is to identify those high-impact ideas that will make your product better and add those to your ClickUp spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not all feedback is created equal<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes, teams are hesitant to invite the user into the planning conversation. Factoring user feedback into your projects requires work, but not as much as you might think.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The payoff is well worth the additional effort. For a user suggestion to make it onto your ClickUp board, it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be well-vetted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few pitfalls that often trip people up. It\u2019s easy to mistake a vocal user (or a small set of users) for a majority of your clients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>1. Quantify your feedback. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s key to understanding the breadth of an idea\u2019s impact. If we implement this, will it make a difference to thousands or dozens? Without a tool in place, quantifying those user votes becomes a manual affair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" class=\"giphy-embed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"271\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/kSlJtVrqxDYKk\" width=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>2. Next, quantify your user\u2019s value.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Is this an enterprise user paying you thousands of dollars or a freemium customer who just signed up a month ago? That doesn\u2019t mean you never work on your low-end offerings, but you can be strategic when setting your task priorities. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/blog\/understanding-customer-feedback-why-it-matters-who-is-saying-what\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to know exactly who is giving you feedback<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That way you can determine the value of each suggestion based on key metrics like user revenue data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>3. Clarify the feedback you get<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/blog\/how-to-ask-the-right-customer-feedback-questions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reach out to your customers and ask them about their goals with a given suggestion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Invite others to comment. You will be surprised how a granular demand can morph into a broader solution. A public feedback board lets you receive and respond to user comments. That way, you can dialogue with people and get a range of diverse inputs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>4. Don\u2019t be afraid to say no to a user suggestion outright.<\/b> If you see an idea or proposal that\u2019s just never going to be on your roadmap, don\u2019t leave it hanging. Mark it as \u201cclosed\u201d and explain your reasons. Leave it up so future users can see it too. You may lose a user or two, but that\u2019s actually rare. And it\u2019s alright if they do churn. It\u2019s better to send them on their way with honesty than to string them along. That usually comes back on you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" class=\"giphy-embed\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"255\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/yBXuEb8lC1mqA\" width=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A feedback solution that empowers you to do all of this is Canny. Of course, there are others out there\u2014using Canny isn\u2019t a requirement. Ultimately, it\u2019s most important that you\u2019re doing it, period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be objective and systematic when it comes to prioritizing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s easy to confuse what\u2019s present (urgent) with what\u2019s important.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve likely all been a part of teams that couldn\u2019t keep the bigger picture in mind and simply ran back and forth between \u201curgent\u201d tasks. If your ClickUp board\u2019s task list is constantly shifting its order, that\u2019s a red flag.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take some time to decide what\u2019s important to you in a user suggestion. Is it the number of votes? The revenue impact? The age of the request? Weigh your criteria as objectively as you can.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Factor in the expected effort and impact to try and arrive at a final \u201cscore.\u201d (We use an Airtable formula here at Canny.) Having that in place will give you confidence when building your ClickUp board and deciding what goes where!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Canny Airtable formula\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11933\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"398\" loading=\"lazy\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2901px) 100vw, 2901px\" src=\"https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Canny-Airtable-1.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Canny-Airtable-1.png 2901w, https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Canny-Airtable-1-300x41.png 300w, https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Canny-Airtable-1-768x105.png 768w, https:\/\/clickup.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Canny-Airtable-1-1400x192.png 1400w\" width=\"2901\"\/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A word of warning here: Be careful to balance users\u2019 current needs versus your long-term strategy. When in doubt, optimize for your target market\u2014just be careful not to accidentally alienate your existing user base.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harnessing user feedback will make your project management more efficient and effective<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fancy formulas and algorithms aside, merely collecting and quantifying what your users think will give you valuable insights on what to build next. This way, the voice of the user is represented when planning. It\u2019s why the ClickUp team uses Canny (and the Canny team uses ClickUp)!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having a feedback tool like Canny also means you\u2019re able to keep users in the loop. Nothing breeds customer loyalty like a user who feels they helped improve a product. Whether via a simple email or a public <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/features\/product-changelog\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Changelog<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, simple communication lets them know they\u2019ve been heard and seen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also strongly recommend showing users a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canny.io\/blog\/should-you-have-a-public-roadmap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">public roadmap<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That will show users what you\u2019re currently working on without posting screenshots of your ClickUp board. Even if it\u2019s not something they suggested, it shows them you are indeed working and not just sitting back. You\u2019d be surprised how much more patient your users become when they can see your roadmap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giving the user a voice leads to clear results. You can assign tasks in ClickUp comfortably, knowing you\u2019re working on the right features in the right order for the right reasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result?
